Help - How to update Stalwart Mail Server in Linux Debian 12 x86-64

Hello Stalwart mail experts.

Please help me. How do I update Stalwart Mail Server (not Docker)

These are the instructions I followed from the upgrading.md instructions:

1. updated the webadmin by clicking on Manage > Maintenance > Update Webadmin
2. sudo systemctl stop stalwart-mail
3. sudo /opt/stalwart-mail/bin/stalwart-mail --config /opt/stalwart-mail/etc/config.toml --export /opt/stalwart-mail/export
4. sudo chown -R stalwart-mail:stalwart-mail /opt/stalwart-mail/export
5. untarred this file: stalwart-mail-x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu.tar.gz
6. replace the binary in /opt/stalwart-mail/bin
7. sudo systemctl start stalwart-mail

Nothing happens. When I try to log in to stalwart it does not load. I waited 5 minutes.

I am confused as to which file to download for Debian. There are so many files in Github and there is no online detailed instructions on how to update Debian or Ubuntu Stalwart. I wish Stalwart team would create a video or a how-to upgrading instructions for each system.

If anyone is using Stalwart with Debian or Ubuntu (non docker) please reply with instructions how you upgraded your Stalwart mail server.

Hi,

Please check your Stalwart logs and also journald to see if there are any errors. Which version are you upgrading from?

Hi mdecimus. First of all, I want to say that I am extremely pleased with the way Stalwart Mail Server works. Nice job!

I am using version: [0.11.5] - 2025-02-01
I am trying to upgrade to: [0.11.7] - 2025-03-24

I will try again and check the logs. I made a snapshot before the update and after failing, I went back to the snapshot. But I will try again. I am thinking it may be that I need to change the ownership and permission of the stalwart-mail file in the bin because when I decompressed the tar file it had another permission. So I will change it to stalwart-mail stalwart-mail (the way it is now) and also change the file to -rwxr-xr-x (the way it is now). I will check the logs too.

I saw that you will also implement an update feature when V1 rolls out. Can't wait. I may just wait until V1 comes out since the version I have now is somewhat recent 2025-02-01.
