How to build java extensions ?

When trying to build java-extensions, I have the following error

How can I solve that?

@simonbrowndotje Since it's hacktoberfest again, is there any way to have that build working? Or should I go the hard way and rewrite everything as maven build (which I know way better than Gradle)

You can simplify the build.gradle file to the following, which should work:

Just FYI ... I don't think this code works past Java 8.
