As an example here, I have a set of base dependencies which includes a typical kernel, but then I have a profile which provides a different kernel and I'd like to prevent the installation of the default kernel entirely for this. I also have a similar situation but with some conflicting packages where the new profile subsumes the requirements from the old one.
