  • drive_token_write() + drive_token_read() is a new matched pair of
    functions that make it much easier to explicitly store a token obtained in an
    interactive session then reuse that token elsewhere, such in CI or in a
    deployed product.

  • as_id() (and hence drive_download(), drive_get(), etc.) works for
    Google Colab links (#459, @MichaelChirico).

  • is_mine() returns FALSE instead of erroring for resources without an
    owner, such as items on a shared drive (#478, @sims1253).

  • Argument checking now uses rlang's argument checkers (check_bool(),
    arg_match0(), stop_input_type(), etc.) throughout, so error messages are
    more consistent and actionable.

  • Several deprecated functions and arguments have been removed. Most have been
    deprecated since googledrive 2.0.0 (released July 2021) or earlier; the OAuth
    "app" items have been deprecated since googledrive 2.1.0
    (released March 2023):

    • All Team Drive functions are gone: team_drive_find(), team_drive_get(),
      team_drive_create(), team_drive_rm(), team_drive_update(),
      as_team_drive(), and is_team_drive(). Use the modern shared drive
      equivalents.
    • The team_drive argument of drive_find() and drive_get() is gone; use
      shared_drive instead.
    • The verbose argument is removed from all functions. Control verbosity with
      options(googledrive_quiet = TRUE), local_drive_quiet(), or
      with_drive_quiet().
    • corpus = "all" is no longer accepted by drive_find() or drive_get() as
      a synonym for corpus = "allDrives".
    • drive_oauth_app() is removed in favor of drive_oauth_client().
    • The app argument of drive_auth_configure() is removed in favor of
      client.
    • The defunct functions drive_auth_config() and drive_example() are
      removed.
