Octo 1.1.1
Fixed
The menu bar panel sometimes opened at the left of the screen instead of under the octopus (with full-screen apps, a menu bar that hides itself, a crowded menu bar on a MacBook with a notch, or menu bar organisers like Bartender and Ice). It now always opens under the icon.
Easier install
The disk image window now shows how to install, including what to do when macOS blocks the first launch.
New: install or update with one line in Terminal (see the README). macOS doesn’t ask you to allow Octo when it’s installed this way.
Updating: run the Terminal line from the README, or quit Octo, open the new disk image and drag Octo to Applications, choosing Replace. Your settings and permissions stay.
Octo 1.1
See your gestures on screen. Two new options under Settings → Gestures → Tuning:
- Show which gesture ran: a small bubble names each gesture and what it did. Handy while you learn them.
- Show your fingers on screen: a live trackpad shows your fingers as you use them. Great for recording a demo.
Plus a step-by-step video tour at the top of the README.
To update: download Octo-1.1.0.dmg below and replace Octo in your Applications folder. Your settings and permissions stay.
Octo 1.0.1
A small update: the menu bar panel now has a "☕ Buy me a coffee" button that opens my Ko-fi page, for anyone who wants to support Octo.
To update: download Octo-1.0.1.dmg below and replace Octo in your Applications folder. Your settings and permissions stay.
Octo 1.0
The first release of Octo: small tools for your Mac, in one menu bar app.
Trackpad gestures: rest a finger and tap beside it to switch tabs, click a link with three
fingers to open it in a new tab (four fingers: and go there), double-tap beside two resting
fingers to hard-reload. Add your own for any app, and try them in the live Test view.
Keep Awake: one click keeps your Mac from sleeping.
Clean Keyboard: blocks keys, scrolling and swipes while you wipe your keyboard and trackpad.
Copy Text: press ⇧⌘2 and drag over any text on screen to copy it, even from images and videos.
Free, open source, and private: Octo never connects to the internet.
Install
Download Octo-1.0.0.dmg below, drag Octo into Applications and open it. The first time,
macOS says it can't verify the developer: click Done, then System Settings → Privacy & Security →
Open Anyway. Requires macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon or Intel.
If Octo saves you time, you can buy me a coffee on Ko-fi. ♥
