Proxy Protocol Support

Is there any plans for support for PROXY protocol?

This would alleviate the need to pass all those tricky X-Forwarded-For and related headers and will make it more reliable for the application server to determine the client-ip, protocol, etc. of the original request.

Varnish 4.1 has support for the PROXY protocol and it would be awesome if we could pass this metadata reliably from Client -> Traefik -> Varnish -> Apache.

PROXY protocol would also allow TCP mode on ELBs in AWS, and the application can still see the source IP for things like geolocation.

I would also find this useful on a AWS ELB, can be a bit of a nightmare at the moment 😞

I've done a bit of work on implementing support for the proxy protocol here:

It still needs documentation and tests, at a minimum.

I am setting up some terraform to test that now, no promises but hope to give it a whirl (I think this is a very important feature)

This should be pretty easy to implement, using a flag and something like https://github.com/armon/go-proxyproto. I could take a wack at this in a couple weeks
