XPlane 10.50 plugin not working

Hi, Just compiled Linuxtrack from GIT, the GUI is working and all is good. I installed the plugin via the GUI and when I started XPlane 10.50, it was loaded. I assigned joystick/keyboard shortcuts, but nothing happens when I engage the tracking. The log shows no problems or issues, is there a separate log for the plugin?

the Linuxtrack stores logs in /tmp... Given the fact, that you can assign keys/buttons to control the tracking means that the plugin loaded OK...
What tracker do you use?
Other than that, try starting the GUI and just save the preferences... Then try starting the X-Plane.

I'm using TrackIR, just ordered it a couple of weeks back. TrackIR is not even started at all (no LED) when I press the assigned joystick button, it stays dormant. It only works when I run ltr_gui but no inside XPlane. After I started XPlane10, here is the only log I found:

Does that mean installation went wrong? why is version 0.0.0? Btw, any plans of moving to CMake and Qt5?

Hello,
just in case, you don't keep ltr_gui running while starting the X-Plane, right? If you do, please quit it first...
The plugin is loaded, since you can assign the buttons and also the library seems to be loaded fine...
Does the TrackIR light up when you start the X-Plane? It should go green when the X-Plane is started and it should go orange when the X-Plane loads... Do you see that happen?

As for going Qt5, it should be ready (although I didn't try it for a while); and as far as CMake goes, to be honest I don't plan to go that way (at least not until there will be a compelling reason to switch). The problem is, that I don't like it from an user point of view - especially a missing functionality like 'configure --help'; I still remember spending more than an hour to get OpenCV compiled on Mac without all the Cuda and other unnecessary stuff...

PS. Does the ltr_pipe work when you run it from terminal?

Yes ltr_pipe works perfectly from terminal and detects motion. I don't have ltr_gui running when trying XPlane10. When XPlane10 starts, there is absolutely no activity in the TrackIR at all. The plugin files appear OK:

For CMake, it is much easier to manage IMO in the long term, not to mention cross-platform. I also intend to make PPA for linuxtrack (unless you have a PPA already) as compiling it now is tricky for regular users. It also failed to build with V4L2 support, (./configure --help mentions nothing about V4L2 or webcam, but configure results say No), so I configured with --with-libv4l2 and then it doesn't compile because there is no "libv4l2.h", the V4L2 header I know of is <linux/videodev2.h>

At any rate, is there anyway to produce verbose log from the plugin?

one thing I noticed when going more closely through the log is that you use X-Camera; for sake of debugging, can you move its plugin somewhere (to disable it) and try again?

Ok so after initial debugging, it appears initialization is not done, or
started but never completes, it's always stuck in there for some reason. I
added some debug statements. After plugin is started it call suspends, then
in the plugin callback:

and goes on forever, I looked at the ltr_int_init_helper() function to see
what's going on but I'm kinda lost there, have to investigate more. Perhaps
there should be more logging to figure out what's going on?

could you try the universal package http://www.linuxtrack.eu/repositories/universal/linuxtrack-0.99.18-64.zip ? Just to rule out a possibility of some unrelated problem...

One thing - if you start the X-Plane, can you check which use does it run under?

When you start the X-Plane, switch to the terminal and list processes looking for processes looking for string ltr, I see two instances of ltr_server1 - one bare, and the other with some commandline parameters... In /tmp, three logfiles starting with linuxtrack appear... What do you see?

As for the initialization, it is somewhat complicated as I wanted to decouple the tracker from the client application - when the library is loaded, it starts a new "proxy" process, which in turn starts a new "daemon", which does the actual tracking... Strange thing is, that this part of code was not changed in ages, so I wander what is going on in there...

Yes, it is a clash with steam runtime. When I run XPlane directly, I see the TrackIR lighting up, but then XPlane fails to load because Steam runtime is not running. What do you suggest to fix this issue?

If you try the universal package, does it behave the same? The thing is, that it is compiled on "older" system and it might avoid the clash...

As for the clash, the question is, what exactly is failing and why... My bet is, that the ltr_server1 doesn't load because of some dynamic library problem; please try looking into /var/log/messages (or syslog, one of them should be present)... If you can run the Steam from commandline, you could try playing with LD_DEBUG variable (see 'man ld.so'), or if you know what directories are added to LD_LIBRARY_PATH, you can set it accordingly and check if you can make ltr_pipe fail the same way the X-Plane does...

There is nothing of interest in syslog. I tried LD_DEBUG for XPlane (attached) and don't know what to make of it. I tried running steam and checking what happens when I press the assigned joystick buttons:

Ok exported LD_LIBRARY_PATH and ran ldconfig and made sure all linuxtrack library are in the path, ran XPlane in Steam with same result :(

can you try the following? Run X-Plane via steam and when it loads, then switch to a terminal, find the process number of X-Plane and from /proc/xyz (xyz being X-Plane process id) copy the file environ somewhere... Now using something like "cat environ | tr '\0' '\n' > environ1" convert nulls to end of lines...
Try exporting LD_PRELOAD and LD_LIBRARY_PATH (or what you think might cause the problem) to a terminal and see if you can make the ltr_pipe fail... So far I was not able to reproduce what you see (although I don't have steam version of X-Plane, my environment comes from Portal and my sim machine has 14.04 on it)...
