Codex Evolve v0.3.0
Codex Evolve v0.3.0
This release makes Codex Evolve aware of the GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna model family, improves prompt-cache reuse, and lets long-thinking workers continue past their first timeout without restarting.
Highlights
- Route strong work to Sol with high reasoning, balanced work to Terra with high reasoning, and cheap work to Luna with extra-high reasoning.
- Start with the strong profile by default, or use
--init cheapfor Luna/xhigh and--init midfor Terra/high. - Override each profile's model and reasoning level through
max. Ultra is excluded because its automatic delegation conflicts with Evolve's direct worker-call boundary. - Put shared task content before per-worker variation so repeated candidates and recombinations can benefit from prompt-cache reads.
- Continue the same live worker across
--timeout-extensionsgrace windows instead of restarting its task. One extension is enabled by default. - Report timeout extensions in the execution trace while preserving the
N + M*Tdirect-call upper bound.
Validation
- 18 tests pass locally and in GitHub CI on Node.js 18.3 and Node.js 22.
- All 22 changed execution paths are covered; the complete runner reports 92.42% line and 82.32% branch coverage.
- Timeout tests cover successful continuation, multiple exhausted windows, zero-extension failure, cancellation during grace, recombination fallback, and subprocess cleanup.
- A live self-review exercised Luna/xhigh initialization and Sol/high recombination, reproducing the former 600-second cutoff that motivated timeout continuation.
- Release commit and v0.3.0 tag are signed and verified.

Codex Evolve v0.2.0
This stable release adds a deterministic, observable evolution runner and updates the default model profiles for the current GPT lineup.
Highlights
- Run seeded candidate populations through deterministic grouping, disagreement-based routing, and configurable population updates.
- Bound concurrency and per-worker runtime, report worker progress and heartbeats, and cancel cleanly on SIGINT or SIGTERM.
- Route strong work to Sol with high reasoning, balanced work to Terra with high reasoning, and cheap work to Luna with extra-high reasoning.
- Ship a Codex-compatible stable plugin manifest with self-contained Apache 2.0 license and notice files for plugin and skill-only installs.
- Cover release metadata and default model profiles with regression tests.
Validation
- 14 tests pass on Node.js 22.
- The Node.js 18.3 compatibility job passes.
- Manifest parsing, runner syntax checks, legal-file checks, and GitHub CI pass.

Codex Evolve v0.2.0-rc.2
This prerelease makes long-running evolution sessions observable, bounded, and safely cancellable.
Improvements
- Workers now report starts, completions, and 30-second heartbeats.
--timeoutbounds each worker to 30–3600 seconds, with a 600-second default.- SIGINT and SIGTERM now cancel queued work, terminate active Codex subprocesses, and clean up temporary files.
- Groups shrink when the live population is smaller than
K, avoiding duplicate candidates and biased routing. - Unicode decisions retain letters and numbers during similarity clustering.
- Node.js support is now stated and enforced consistently at 18.3 or newer.
- Prompt-boundary documentation now distinguishes delimiters from the read-only sandbox and output-schema security boundaries.
Validation
- 12 tests pass on Node.js 18.3 and 22.
- Runner coverage: 89.92% lines and 78.75% branches.
- Plugin and skill validation pass.
- A live timeout smoke test confirmed immediate worker-start messages, 30-second heartbeats, bounded termination, cleanup, and no repository writes.

Codex Evolve — v0.2.0-rc.1
This prerelease replaces model-driven orchestration with a real deterministic
runner while preserving the primary-thread single-writer workflow.
New features
- Seeded native runner: A bundled dependency-free Node runner controls
grouping, decision clustering, model routing, population updates, concurrency,
and cleanup. - Structured Codex workers: Every worker runs through an ephemeral,
read-onlycodex execsession and returns a validated JSON proposal. - Paper-aligned controls: New seed, similarity threshold, routing threshold,
model-tier, andelitist/replace/accumulateupdate options. - Usage trace: Results report worker calls, lite consensus operations, model
routes, failures, and input, cached, output, and reasoning tokens.
Improvements
- Preserves the v0.1 fast, default, and thorough population sizes.
- Uses GPT-5.6 Sol for strong initialization and Terra for lower-cost
recombination roles. - Adds deterministic tests for parsing, grouping, clustering, routing, updates,
concurrency, failure handling, and usage accounting.
Breaking changes
- Node.js 18+ and an authenticated Codex CLI are now required.
- Runner startup failures stop the workflow instead of silently falling back to
non-deterministic in-thread orchestration.

reproduce the paper's benchmark, cost, accuracy, or throughput results.
Codex Evolve v0.1.0
Codex Evolve — v0.1.0
The first stable release brings evidence-routed, multi-agent problem solving to
Codex as an installable plugin or standalone Agent Skill.
New features
- Bounded evolution workflow: Compare independent approaches, route
recombination by disagreement, and let the primary Codex thread implement the
selected result once. - Three operating modes: Use
--fast, the balanced default, or
--thorough, with numeric overrides for candidate count, group size,
recombination groups, and loop count. - Safe execution model: Candidate workers remain read-only while the
primary thread preserves single-writer control and validates authorized
changes. - Flexible installation: Install the full Codex plugin from its marketplace
or install only$codex-evolvewithnpx skills.

Codex Evolve v0.1.0-rc.1
Codex Evolve v0.1.0-rc.1
The first release candidate packages evidence-routed multi-agent problem
solving as a local Codex skill.
New Features
- Evolutionary task solving: Compare independent proposals, route
recombination by disagreement, and synthesize one evidence-backed approach. - GPT-5.6 model routing: Use Sol for strong reasoning, Terra for medium and
fast routes, and skip model calls for consensus groups. - Safe implementation workflow: Candidate workers remain read-only while
the primary Codex thread performs explicitly requested changes and
validation. - Bounded execution: Choose fast, default, thorough, or custom population
and loop settings with early convergence.
Improvements
- Added complete option, range, routing, and worker-call documentation.
- Applied GPT-5.6 prompt guidance with lean task packets, explicit authorization
boundaries, success criteria, evidence requirements, and stop conditions. - Removed duplicated workflow instructions while preserving behavior.
Known Limitations
- Invocation is explicit through
$codex-evolve; implicit activation is
disabled. - Candidate workers propose changes but do not implement in isolated
worktrees. The primary thread is the only writer. - This Codex-native adaptation is not configuration-compatible with the
upstream Squeeze-Evolve Python, NVIDIA Dynamo, or Claude Code implementations.
