General Discussion
I personally felt I didn’t know enough while developing the Protocol Document to have aided the formation of the API document the class received. It would have been better if we were given more information and had a wider knowledge to actually know what was expected of us. In my opinion, a better approach for this could have been used in this course. The final document however was reasonable (although pretty hard!), and helped us all learn a lot from it. Being able to develop a system like I have makes me feel immensely proud. In terms of suitabilty for use, I really wish we had more lectures teaching us the fundamentals to create a web-app like this. Some things were genuinely way too hard given the time constraints we had (and other course submissions at the same time).
Python is a user friendly language which made integration between the Front and Back end simple. I looked into a few other languages that could have helped speed up the process, but believe Python is a god fundamental language to start of with. Having had no experience in any of the languages I used for the project, I have truly learnt a lot in the last couple of weeks. JQuery made the use of JavaScript very easy and I had fun designing my pages using CSS.
I really want to have a work around the storage capacity of the databasing. While it may not be an issue now, I can certainly see it causing problems in the future with more and more usage of the web-app. Another improvement can be to somehow make sure all user web-apps are always online. This way, the entire concept of offline messaging can be replaced and will ensure no data is ever lost in transfer between users. A fully peer-to-peer implementation (i.e. a decentralised system) might actually have been a better way to implement this web-app.
