Motivation
Starts the upgrades for the date picker mentioned in this discussion. This PR only addresses the color and text changes as the layout and upgrades for the other components is a much large effort.
@RichardLindhout Please test this out against version 2 and 3 before merging. I think it's a good start toward the recommended guidelines.
