fatsecret is a freely available application which allows users to keep track of their daily diet. The main feature of fatsecret is that it makes use of an extensive database, which allows for qualitative diet diary data to be instantly translated into detailed macro and micro nutrient profiles. Alongside a user friendly website and applications for portable devices (Android, OSX, Window) it also has an extensive API (JavaScript and RESTful).

fatsecretR provides an R interface to the fatsecret RESTful API with the aim of enabling the users to;

  1. Search the fatsecret database of nutritional data from the R Console

  2. Manage user data from within the R Console

  3. Deploy and manage fatsecret as an electronic diet recodring tool in dietary intervention & monitoring studies
