What is your idea?

First off, I am head over heels in love with Astro/Starlight 🤩 well done team.

Afik Starlight currently supports using components within starlight content collections or custom pages wrapped in a StarlightPage. I'd like to be able to use Starlight components, ie Tabs, Asides, Steps, but with my own entirely custom collections and layouts.

Maybe a '2.0' discussion could be implementing more advanced components, ie Search, Sidebar, with custom collections.

Why is this feature necessary?

My website is a hybrid Game engine editor and documentation site and I'm experiencing growing pains creating a consistent look and feel.

I'm also enjoying the control that comes with setting up collections manually, ie the Astro blog tutorial, but miss all the beautiful starlight stuff when I do that.

Do you have examples of this feature in other projects?

The team has done a wonderful job with expressive-code, a straightforward pick-and-choose component library.
