Connecting to SUN2000-5KTL-L1 Inverter with WiFi Fe Dongle

Hello,
I have a few of those inverters and many are in a Master/Slave configuration.

The integration used to work but in the meantime I connected some of them via the Wifi Fe dongle etc so there might be changes. All of them have now a wired RJ45 connection to my home network and the internet. The IP address I use is the one from the wired connection. The slave IDs are correct and verified.

Now when I try to connect I get „Unexpected error“ and the log tells me „Modbus Error: [Input/Output] No response received after 3 retries, continue with next request“

What could be the issue here? Can it be that the inverter needs to communicate to Fusion solar via Wifi to allow the Modbus connection to work?

I was having the same issue and solved doing this: I blocked the IP address of the wifi module from the router and used only the IP address of wired connection.

Do you also send your data at the same time to the Fusion Solar cloud?

I am pushing this topic back up. Wondering how everyone else has connected them. I have blocked all the wifi MAC addresses from the Huawei devices. The only connection is via the wired RJ45 interface. This is also the interface it communicates with the Fusion Solar cloud.

I have the same issue with a SUN2000-10K-MAP0 and a wifi dongle SDongleA-05. I think its related to the software versions based on other posts/discussions.

Here a log from a ping and port check. It answers the ping, 6607 is closed but 502 is working:

I am on the latest firmwares and Home Assistant is also up to date.

I think it’s quite complete and for no obvious reason not working. Any ideas? Thanks!

One more thing I notice:

when I unblock the wifi on my router and want to connect home assistant to the wireless IP address I get the same error. Interesting to note is that the port which is open on the Wifi IP is 6607 and 502 is closed. Exactly the opposite as in the wired connection.

I have a SUN2000-3KTL-L1 with a SmartDongle-WLAN-FE, and I struggled to get Home Assistant to connect to the inverter. In my case, the issue turned out to be that the MBUS took several days — almost a week — before it finally started working. I have no idea why, but it just began working on its own. Once the MBUS was active, Home Assistant connected right away without any further problems.

you don't have to put the ip of the inverter but the ip of the dongle as specified into doc.
I reinsert the inverter 3 days ago and i tried 100 times before it goes ok. So try and try with the dongle ip address, that must be fixed

I solved disconnect the dongle, wait some seconds and reconnect. i hope it works also for you

Right then I am not the only one. I have given up on it in the meantime. Couldn’t find a solution unfortunately.

Hey, I am having the same problems. Here´s what my setup and history looks like:

• EVCC connected to dongle via WIFI for several months
• learned that dongle only accepts one client
• installed modbus proxy on HA
• EVCC reliably connects/reads via modbus proxy
• Huawei solar is not able to connect (as only client - neither directly to dongle nor via modbus proxy)
  • Huawei solar shows "unexpected error"
  • in modbus proxy logs I see "write_read error [1/2]: IncompleteReadError('0 bytes read on a total of 6 expected bytes')". This is the same for evcc, but it seems to continue, while Huawei solar seems to stop and close connection.

I was able to solve the issue in the following way: Instead of using HA modbus proxy, I use EVCC modbus proxy now. Used 502 as input and output port and set "readonly: true" (not sure if this is really needed).
With this configuration Huawei solar config succeded and data is coming in now.

Just added the following to EVCC config:
modbusproxy:

• port: 502
  uri: 192.x.x.x:502
  readonly: true

Then set up the huawei solar integration pointing to evcc ip:502
