WritingTool 1.1.1 incompatible with OpenJDK-24

OpenJDK (Java): build 24+36
WritnigTool: 1.1.1

Symptom: at LibreOffice launch or when opening a document:
"An error has occurred in WritingTool 1.1.1 (2025-01-10 08:46:56 +0000)
java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not activate rules
..."

I have look deeper inside the error report.
It is related to the EntityLimit's defined in jaxp.properties file.
But increasing any of them from 100,000 to 1,000,000 does not solve the problem.
So it seems that WritingTool enters some uncontrolled loop when parsing LanguageTool's rules.

Adding to this to say I have the same issue.

System: Manjaro Linux x86_64 KDE plasma 6.3.3
Latest release of Java, WritingTool, and LibreOffice.

I can reproduce the problem. It's due to LanguageTool, which doesn't work with OpenJDK-24. WritingTool uses LanguageTool's local engine. I'll report this to the LanguageTool developers.
However, compatibility won't change for releases up to and including WritingTool 1.2, as the next release (WritingTool 1.2) uses LanguageTool 6.6, and the incompatibility exists there.
Incidentally, this incompatibility is a bug in Java (version 24 should be backward compatible).
I will therefore change the requirements for WritingTool in Java 17 through Java 21.

Thank you for your investigation and the information.
Even if Java 24 does not insure backward compatibility as claimed, I think that LanguageTool, as any other soft, has to be quickly upgraded in order to closely follow the evolution of general packages like Java. Using Java language is their choice.
So I am waiting for correction in the LanguageTool engine.

Seems to be OK after upgrade to Ubuntu 25.04 (plucky) and its standard java "default-jre" depending on openjdk-24+36 (and same libreoffice version 25.2).

I've tested this too. It works. I'm closing this issue as resolved.
