This target is only useful for simulator builds. It is extremely unlikely that we will get around to adding support for it before Apple entirely drop support for Intel machines, so we will not support it.

is there an x64 Apple watchOS? i'm on the impression there's arm v7 watchOS which has 32 bit pointers but is otherwise 64 bit and then aarch64 watchOS

There are 4 watchOS targets:

• aarch64-watchos-none
• aarch64-watchos-ilp32
• aarch64-watchos-simulator
• x86_64-watchos-simulator

The first two are the actual device targets, with ilp32 being the ABI that uses 32-bit pointers. Note that they both run on actual AArch64 hardware; we've already dropped support for actual ARMv7 watches in #21880. (Apple have also effectively abandoned ilp32 already, but it'd be a bit premature to remove it still.)

What's the difference between aarch64-watchos-none and aarch64-watchos-simulator?

Other than some differences in Mach-O metadata, I actually don't know if there's any particularly meaningful difference. 🤷
