This is a bit adjacent to #21 so feel free to merge or close if it overlaps.

Anki Miner solves a problem a lot of immersion learners currently patch together with subs2srs, mpv, and dictionary lookup. At ~36 stars it feels like more people should know about it given how polished v2.6 is.

First though: is growing the user base something you actually want? Some maintainers prefer quiet growth and that's fine, it's your project.

If you are open to it, one creator that comes to mind is Jouzu Juls (上手 ジューズ). He does detailed walkthroughs of exactly this kind of setup: Yomitan, Anki workflows, MPV-based mining.

His latest video is actually a sponsored Migaku walkthrough. Anki Miner covers a lot of the same ground but free and open-source. Not saying we pitch it as a Migaku alternative, just that his audience is already into this kind of tool and might want to know a free option exists.

I'd be happy to talk about Anki Miner on twitter and other japanese learning circles I am in or reach out to Japanese learning influencers like the one I mentioned.

I generated some interest when making a reddit post on reddit a while ago.

It's a coincidence you should mention JouzuJuls. I have the same thoughts.

JouzuJuls would make a great fit for making a review/tutorial about Anki Miner. I hope he does. Feel free to jump in the conversation. The more people talking about it, the further the reach.

I also made a forum post for on his discord channel for talking about Anki Miner. I'm helping someone there get it set up currently.

First though: is growing the user base something you actually want?

Absolutely! More users = better project = more users, etc. Current slow growth is just my poor outreach skills.
Without @StyraxBenzoin's help, I would probably be at like 10 stars at the moment :).

I've been more focused on technical functionality, though I've also rewritten the README and worked on demos and example card gifs to make the repo more attractive to potential users. Any further suggestions on repo improvements are welcome.

Juls has said in multiple comments that he is open to free projects if they are on par with paid ones, and that is what (I hope) Anki Miner is becoming.

Hopefully the lack of affiliate pay won't stop him from reviewing Anki Miner. I'd happily fix any negatives he finds. Any feedback from him would make my day.

I know a main page reddit post has already been done recently on r/learnjapanese, but it may be an idea to keep up with posting in the "Weekly Thread: Material Recs and Self-Promo Wednesdays". Maybe a template on hand on hand to post weekly, and add what new features have been added since last time?

I posted there a couple times, but I don't think it's worth the effort.
Checked the last self-promo thread, almost all comments are at negative upvotes. Doesn't seem very welcoming lol.
I tried posting in a few other smaller japanese learning subreddits like r/japaneseresources but Reddit's filters didn't like that since my account is rather new :(.
Maybe I'll try a repost in r/ajatt though. Got some attention there a few months ago. What do you think?

Ah okay fair enough. Reddit can be pretty fickle so I shouldn't be surprised I guess. I think I cross posted my last one to r/ajatt but it only got 1k views compared to 25k views on r/learnjapanese. You probably still could try post in r/ajatt as a main post and it may do better.

One redeeming quality about Reddit is that those posts get referenced in search engines and when somebody will search for "anki batch miner" for instance those threads will surface, LLMs also will see them.

There are a couple of other Discords I can post in, for instance Refold has 20k subs. I think in 2026 having influencers talking about what you are trying to promote is the best way to do it, it's content for them and visibility for you, it's a win-win. It's also possible to talk to other devs like the creator of Lapis note type I use https://github.com/donkuri , if he mentions Anki Miner in his guide like he does for ABSplayer that's a lot of visibility.

I haven't considered influencers before - do you know any that could be contacted and might be interested except for JouzuJuls?
I assume most only do sponsored reviews though :(. Business is business ultimately.

I've posted in a couple servers on discord (including Refold), though only got success in TheMoeWay. Had more success bringing it up to other learners in conversation generally. If you find any good servers to post in, please do so :).

Agreed, I've wanted to do this for a while. But they tend to only accept well-known ones. e.g "Moving forward, I will not accept tools that are not well-known in the community." from donkuri/japanese-resources. I don't think Anki Miner counts as 'well-known', so I'm thinking of waiting for more users/stars before attempting to PR into lists like donkuri's or shoui's.
