KaVonne's Cybersecurity Study Notes & Trackers

🧭 My Goal

I am learning the fundamentals of IT and security. My goal is to build up my skills step-by-step so I can eventually pivot into a role in digital forensics, cybercrime investigations, or a security operations center.

πŸ“š What I Am Learning Right Now

πŸ–₯️ Linux & Operating Systems

  • Learning how to navigate the file system using the command line (cd, ls, pwd).
  • Managing file permissions and understanding how users/groups work.
  • Practice using basic terminal text editors (like Nano).

🌐 Networking Fundamentals

  • Understanding how data moves across a network (IP addresses, packets, and ports).
  • Learning the basics of the TCP/IP model.
  • Getting familiar with network commands like ping and traceroute.

πŸ›‘οΈ Cybersecurity Basics

  • Understanding basic security frameworks and defensive controls.
  • Learning how to look through system logs to find unusual activity.
  • Introduction to simple SQL commands to search databases and basic Python logic.

πŸ“ Current Training & Education

  • Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate (Coursera)
    • Status: Currently working through the modules.
    • Focus: Getting hands-on with security concepts, Linux, and log analysis.
  • TryHackMe
    • Status: Completing beginner-friendly rooms and basic paths.
    • Focus: Doing guided labs to practice networking and Linux command line.
  • Metropolitan Community College
    • Status: Starting the A.A.S. Secure Systems Administration & Engineering program this upcoming August.

πŸ› οΈ Future Projects (Things I Want to Build)

1. A Simple Virtual Lab

  • The Plan: Install VirtualBox on my computer.
  • The Goal: Set up a safe Linux virtual machine just to practice commands, play with network settings, and break things without messing up my main computer.

🎯 My Goals for 2026

  • Finish all modules of the Google Cybersecurity Certificate.
  • Keep a steady streak going on TryHackMe beginner rooms.
  • Get VirtualBox set up and running with my first Linux VM.
  • Start studying for the CompTIA Security+ exam once my foundational courses are done. Cybersecurity notes and hands-on labs from Google Cybersecurity Certificate and TryHackMe
