Let memory work without the numbers, and survive a level
Memory could not lock without hints read off the screen, so on a machine
where the numbers will not read - the machine that needs memory most - it
never started, and the slow, misreading path carried everything. That is
the circle: memory waits for OCR, OCR is the broken part.
A full pool is a hint that needs nothing read. At full, your current
value IS your maximum, so the search asks for that instead when nothing
has been read. Re-scan now says so, and it is enough on its own with the
maximum typed in.
Levelling threw the lock away, every time. The lock was validated by an
exact maximum, and a maximum changes on every level and gear swap while
the structure stays exactly where it is - so it was discarded at the one
moment everything else was changing too, and then needed the numbers to
rebuild it. A pool that has become half or double what it was is a
different pool; anything nearer is the same one, levelled. The new
maximum is taken from the address already locked.
And once memory is confirmed it decides everything, with the numbers only
there to catch it pointing at the wrong thing. Reading them several times
a second for that is what makes a machine hitch - each read is a screen
grab and a recognise. Once a second is plenty to police a liar.
