XHTML Custom Elements

Introduction

Brainstorming about Web Components and custom elements, while HTML custom elements presently require hyphens in their tag names, perhaps XHTML custom elements could make use of XML namespaces.

Currently, the window.customElements property provides an instance of CustomElementRegistry which provides the following methods:

window.customElements.define(name, constructor, options);
window.customElements.get(name);
window.customElements.getName(constructor);
window.customElements.whenDefined(name);
window.customElements.upgrade(root);
window.customElements.initialize(root);

For discussion, the CustomElementRegistry interface could also provide:

window.customElements.defineNS(namespace, name, constructor, options);
window.customElements.getNS(namespace, name);
window.customElements.getNamespace(constructor);
window.customElements.whenDefinedNS(namespace, name);
