clean up examples folder

examples are overwhelming and we have no idea what percentage of them are currently running right now

• check each example if running, fix if not, or delete if out of date
• consider a method for testing if these run as part of our CI
• organize to have user-oriented examples more prevalent and internal testing notebooks more hidden
• add .end_trace() to the notebook examples

Remembered we had these in docs too. I think it would be good to add them in the docs as well. We have a CI action for that.
