Help Updating Thorium (Non Portable Version)

Hi, could someone advise me on how to update Thorium.

I tried:

But this didn't work and isn't supported anymore.

Is there a way to manually do it by swapping out files?

My main goal is to update and not have to sign back in and to keep all extensions/Tabs open.

My original installation is via the thorium_AVX_mini_installer.exe

Back up the folder located at "C:\Program Files\Thorium", or wherever it's installed. Delete all its contents and replace them with the contents of the Thorium portable BIN folder.

Also back up your profile in "AppData\Local\Thorium".

What matters to Windows are the paths in the registry. If everything is correct, everything will work perfectly.

If the registry points to the path below, just make sure Thorium is there; the version doesn't matter.

After replacing the files, open the program, and everything will probably open normally as before.

C:\Program Files\Thorium\thorium.exe

This worked. The program is updated and everything working as it was before the update.

I always dirty installed the newer version of thorium (via the mini-installer) and never faced any problems (for reference I am on Windows 10).
However with the new 138 (.303) the mini-installer kept failing and ultimately I used winget (winget install Alex313031.Thorium).
However, to switch from SSE4 to AVX I needed to follow what mscelo said, and replace the contents of my thorium application folder with the bin folder, which the mini-installer handled without hiccups historically (right till the first 138 release).

@Aedon Making sure the new installer works properly is a high priority, can you please describe what went wrong with the new mini installer here > #433

@Alex313031 Alex, I asked GPT to analyze the “mini_installer.exe” log, and it said that the problem really wasn’t with my computer. According to the log, the program will not install on any machine because the installer could not find some files.

The version that didn’t install was the AVX version. I don’t know if the others are having the same issue as well.
