MDrust v1.1.0 — Performance Optimization + GUI Redesign

Major update: performance optimization, complete GUI redesign, and dependency audit.

Performance

  • mimalloc — global allocator: -15-30% RAM, +5-15% speed
  • tokio slim features — replaces full: removes net, signal, process (-300-500 KB)
  • PDF single-pass loading — lopdf loaded once instead of 3 times
  • FuturesUnordered — streaming batch results, reduced peak RAM
  • Fat LTO + strip=symbols — minimal binary size

Dependencies

  • calamine replaces umya-spreadsheet (XLSX: 5-10x faster, -1 MB)
  • htmd replaces scraper+html2text (HTML: -1 MB, one dependency instead of two)
  • time replaces chrono (-300-500 KB)
  • Enum dispatch (Converter) instead of Box
  • parking_lot::Mutex instead of std::sync::Mutex

GUI — Complete Redesign

  • Design system — dark/light theme with unified colors and styles
  • Professional layout — TopBar + Sidebar + Central + StatusBar
  • File cards — colored statuses, progress bars
  • egui_commonmark — Markdown rendering (tabs: Rendered/Source/Metadata)
  • Status bar with ETA — remaining conversion time
  • Toast notifications — egui-notify
  • Zoom — Ctrl+/Ctrl-/Ctrl+0
  • Phosphor icons — icons throughout the interface

OCR

  • Default 1 language (English) instead of 3 — 3x faster
  • Russian/Chinese enabled manually in UI
