Audio Quality Reference

Dotify supports a wide range of audio formats across free and Premium Spotify tiers. Use the --audio-quality flag with a comma-separated priority list — Dotify tries each format in order and automatically falls back to the next if unavailable.

dotify --audio-quality flac-flac-24,flac-flac,aac-high "spotify:track:..."

Lossless — Spotify Premium Required

Quality String Format Bit Depth Notes
flac-flac-24 FLAC 24-bit Highest available quality
flac-mp4-24 FLAC in MP4 24-bit Alternative 24-bit container
flac-flac FLAC 16-bit Standard lossless
flac-mp4 FLAC in MP4 16-bit Alternative lossless container

Recommended Priority Strings

Premium — Best Lossless

--audio-quality flac-flac-24,flac-flac,aac-high

Downloads 24-bit FLAC where available, falls back to 16-bit FLAC, then AAC 256kbps.

Premium — Best Lossy (Smaller File Size)

--audio-quality aac-high,vorbis-high

Free Account

--audio-quality aac-medium,vorbis-medium

Notes

  • FLAC and AAC 256kbps require a Spotify Premium account AND a valid cookies.txt and device.wvd. See Authentication.
  • Not every track has every format available. The fallback list ensures you always get the best quality your account supports.
  • Set your preferred quality string permanently in Configuration under "audio_quality" to avoid typing it every time.
