2025-04-20 - afaict there are no kits available from any supplier (the official monome support is for the shield is long dead and so is the more expensive "official" hardware). in addition, the third party kits are all out of stock and - apparently - have been for a year or more. would love to be corrected if wrong...

I wouldn't say so. There is 2 pages of in-stock Norns shield goods available thru Pusherman right now. Anything from bare PCBs to complete units are available. They've updated software this month. New applets published regularly (you can follow such news on Lines forum).

I don't know what that means considering we are talking about well documented open source hardware. I do believe the reason there is no active HW development is: it is not much to add or to fix in HW of the Shield.

Also there's a popular fork of Norns called ShieldXL that's still in production and comes as a DIY kit.
