🌍 Problem Statement
Small-scale farmers in rural areas struggle to identify and respond to crop diseases early, leading to major yield losses and food insecurity. There’s a need for an accessible tool that helps them detect issues in real-time without needing expert knowledge.
🛠️ Your Solution
I used the computer-vision-template from the azd gallery to build FarmGuard – a Gen AI-powered web app that lets farmers upload photos of their crops and get instant feedback on possible diseases.
Customizations I made:
- Integrated a GitHub Model trained on plant disease images.
- Added multilingual support (Swahili + English).
- Connected to Azure Blob Storage to store farmer image uploads.
- Modified frontend to work well on low-bandwidth mobile browsers.
Why it works:
- It's low-cost, fast, and easy to deploy.
- Enables early detection and mitigation, potentially saving harvests.
