/stats massively under-reporting expenses (and expenses much higher than expected)

Hi,

I've just set up ClawRouter, but am finding that my wallet credit is being depleted much faster than expected.

In particular, what /stats claims bears little relation to the true spend.

I've topped up my wallet with around $17 today. The true spend has been of around $11. /stats currently claims a total Cost of $3.3758.

I've checked my wallet activity, and found that, for example, just running running node cli.js wallet balance / usage / history three times in quick succession drained ~$0.20 each call. I'm not sure if it's expected for it to be so expensive, but in any case it's not showing in /stats.

Thanks for the detailed report — this was a real bug, and a multi-layered one.

Root Cause

/stats was logging a locally estimated cost instead of the actual x402 payment amount. The gap came from 5 compounding issues:

1. grok-4-0709 pricing was 15x wrong — ClawRouter had $0.20/$1.50 but the server charges $3.00/$15.00
2. nvidia/kimi-k2.5 pricing was off — $0.55/$2.50 vs server's $0.60/$3.00
3. Cost was estimated from actual output tokens — but the server charges based on max_tokens (the budget, not actual usage), plus a 5% margin. Short responses could show 10-20x less than what was charged.
4. Image generation had zero cost logging — /v1/images/generations and /v1/images/image2image triggered x402 payments but never called logUsage(). Completely invisible in /stats.
5. Partner API logged cost: 0 — /v1/x/* endpoints logged cost: 0 with a comment "handled by x402 settlement".

Fix

Instead of estimating costs locally, ClawRouter now captures the actual x402 payment amount from the onAfterPaymentCreation hook using AsyncLocalStorage (per-request scoped, no race conditions). /stats now reflects exactly what left your wallet.

Fixed in 8382b46. Update to get the fix:

npm install -g @blockrun/clawrouter@latest

Note: The fix applies to new requests going forward. Historical /stats data from before the update will still show the old (under-reported) numbers.

Ok. So this fixes the mis-reporting part. As for the elevated pricing, is it normal for simply checking the wallet balance to drain 0.20 per call?
