Standalone
This guide explains how to set up MagicChatbox for standalone VR usage, such as with an Oculus/Meta Quest headset.
The goal is to make MagicChatbox send its information from your Windows device directly to your standalone VR headset through your local network.
Before starting, make sure you have the following:
- A working Windows device
- For example, a low-end laptop or desktop PC
- A standalone VR headset
- For example, Oculus Quest / Meta Quest
- The MagicChatbox software
- A working internet connection
- Your Windows device and VR headset connected to the same Wi-Fi network
Important
Your PC and VR headset must be connected to the same network. Otherwise, MagicChatbox will not be able to send information to your headset.
Before we can create a standalone connection, a few things need to be prepared on your desktop, VR headset, and inside VRChat.
First, prepare MagicChatbox on your Windows device.
- Download and install MagicChatbox from the Releases section.
- Open the MagicChatbox software.
- Go to the Options tab.
- Open the App-Options sub-tab.
Next, you need to find the local IPv4 address of your standalone headset.
- Start your VR headset.
- Open the Settings app.
- Find and open your Internet / Wireless-LAN / Wi-Fi settings.
- Locate your home Wi-Fi network.
- Click on the ⓘ icon or anything related to showing more information.
- Optional: If needed, click on Show Advanced Information.
- Find and remember your headset’s IPv4 address.
The IPv4 address usually looks similar to this:
