The United States of America originated from a handful of British Colonies in the 15th Century AD. It was the pioneering European colonial group to declare independence from the “Old World,” establishing its foundation on Classical Republicanism and English Common Law. Early American History is defined by aggressive territorial expansion, self-cultural development, and industrialization. The late 18th century to the American Civil War was the time of manifest destiny. By 1860, the young republic stretched from New York in the East to San Francisco in the West, from Chicago in the North to New Orleans in the South.

Following the American Civil War, the United States progressed forward with the abolition of slavery, and rapid industrialization, and, within two generations, began serious international commitments in both The Great War and World War II. America developed militarily and economically as a world superpower from 1880 to 1945.

Following the end of WWII, the United States took on the position of Supreme Maritime Hegemony in its global rivalry with the Soviet Union for dominance as the sole World Superpower. Throughout the Cold War, Americans deeply reflected their founding principles, effectively navigating the cultural, ethical, and political challenges posed by the American Civil Rights Movement. Additionally, the U.S. triumphed in the Space Race in July 1969. With the Collapse of the Soviet Union in 1989, the United States entered the new Millennium soaring on optimism. This “Golden Age” was to be short-lived. The American sense of superiority was challenged in the East by a rising Communist China, in the quagmire of Middle Eastern politics and its lucrative resource opportunities, and by the unpredictable designs of the new Russian Federation.

Can you see the Americans through the many centuries of peace and war? Will you hold the republic together through periods of economic boom and bust? Can you build a Civilization that can stand the test of time?
