Terraria Access v0.1.9

The first release of Terraria Access to include a full installer.

Upgrading from a Previous Version

If you had a previous version of Terraria Access installed (when it was known as ScreenReaderMod), you must manually delete the following files from your Documents\My Games\Terraria\tModLoader\Mods\ folder before running the installer:

  • ScreenReaderMod.tmod
  • enabled.json

This is required because the mod has been renamed from ScreenReaderMod to TerrariaAccess. The installer will place the correct files automatically. If you are installing for the first time, no action is needed.

What's New

  • Health indicator system — audio heartbeat chirps play at low health thresholds, growing more urgent as health drops, giving you an immediate cue to heal.
  • Hostile mob category added to the Guidance System.
  • Chest type identification in the Guidance System — chests now announce their type (Wooden Chest, Gold Chest, Frozen Chest, etc.).
  • Hairstyle menu navigation completely reworked with a simplified approach. No more scrolling through the menu — simply use left and right to navigate through all hairstyles.
  • ChunkMiner added, which breaks all ores in a vein at once, similar to VeinMiner.
  • Bestiary menu is now fully accessible.
  • Tolk speech system is now the primary speech backend, replacing the previous NVDA-only approach. This enables support for JAWS, NVDA, SuperNova, System Access, ZoomText, and SAPI fallback.
  • Screen sonification — press the tilde/grave key to get a sound-based view of your surroundings.
  • Static mode re-added to Edge Detection.
  • Footstep pitch changes — walking up or down a tile now produces a slight pitch change to indicate elevation.
  • Gap detection audio — while falling down a tunnel or jumping, you can hear gaps the player can fit into, helping identify cave openings.
  • Wall collision sound effect plays when the player walks into a wall.
  • Underwater announcements with dynamic breath updates and an accompanying sound effect.
  • Fall damage indicators re-added with several improvements.
  • Full installer — the mod now uses a proper installer for setup.

Fixes

  • Inventory screen — fixed unlabeled buttons and other elements that didn't make sense.
  • Guidance System jitter — sweeps now complete in roughly one second regardless of how many objects are on screen, making navigation feel more responsive and predictable.
  • Locked chests now properly announce that they are locked.
  • Guidance System distance filtering — entries that were very far away are no longer incorrectly shown.
  • First-letter navigation no longer treats the prefix of an item as its first letter.

Work in Progress

  • Several menus under the Workshop menu now have rudimentary accessibility support.

...and much more! See the included documentation for full details.
