Mello TV 0.1.0-alpha.3 — macOS updates

Mello TV 0.1.0-alpha.3 introduces in-app updates for macOS and corrects the Mac catalog status display.

• Signed updates: check from the Mello TV menu or Settings → Updates, with options for background checking and automatic updates.
• Playback-aware installation: updates wait for active streaming to finish before restarting the Mac app and bundled server. A three-minute grace period bridges gaps between media requests; unavailable readiness checks postpone installation.
• Catalog status: a working TMDB catalog now shows Available instead of Needs care.

Install the signed, notarized Apple Silicon macOS DMG by dragging Mello TV into Applications. Existing public Mac builds need this one manual installation to gain in-app updates. Keep your existing application data; profiles, viewing history, cached metadata, and Keychain credentials are preserved.

This is a Mac/server release. The iOS app is unchanged: continue using the alpha.2 IPA, which remains compatible and does not need reinstalling. Download the unchanged iOS alpha.2 IPA.

Supported packaged platforms remain Apple Silicon Macs (macOS 13+) and the existing iOS client. Windows and Linux releases are not yet available. Provider availability and playback quality still depend on the source/title. Run an appropriate VPN on the server Mac.

An early Mello TV release with the Mac server and iOS companion.

macOS installation

• Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 13 or later.
• Open Mello-TV-0.1.0-alpha.2-macOS.dmg and drag Mello TV to Applications.
• The signed and notarized app runs the household server and web player on your Mac.

iOS installation

• iPhone or iPad running iOS 17 or later, connected to a running Mello TV server.
• Download Mello-TV-0.1.0-alpha.2-iOS.ipa and import it into your sideloading app.
• The IPA is unsigned for recipient re-signing. Sign it with your sideloading setup before installation; it is not an App Store or TestFlight download.
• Open Mello TV and connect to your Mac server over your local network or Tailscale.

First setup

• Open Settings → Server → Catalog · TMDB and add your own TMDB API key or API Read Access Token. Mello TV stores it in your Mac’s Keychain and uses it to fetch titles and artwork.
• Create a profile and finish the genre and favorite-title setup to generate personalized recommendations.
• We recommend a reputable VPN on the server Mac for upstream network privacy. Use Tailscale for private remote access; it is separate from routing the server’s outbound traffic through a VPN.

Alpha notes

• This release includes macOS and iOS downloads. Windows and Linux releases are not included.
• Catalog coverage, recommendations, and playable sources may be incomplete or unavailable. Provider availability and playback can vary; some titles may fail or require another source.
• This is an early alpha and does not guarantee 4K playback or complete title coverage.
