Uninstalling
myfox uninstall # in the terminal
myfox uninstall --gui # in a window
myfox uninstall --remove-profile # together with the profile
myfox uninstall --no-restore-sync # leave the Firefox account in the MyFox profileDoesn't run while Firefox is running.
- Firefox;
- the shortcut;
- the
firefoxshell command, if on; the previousfirefoxis put back; - the
myfoxcommand; - the completion scripts MyFox put in place;
-
~/.local/share/myfoxand~/.local/state/myfox.
The profile (bookmarks, history, passwords) stays on disk by default; the next MyFox install offers it in the "Profile" field.
To delete the profile: the "Also delete the profile" checkbox in the dialog or the
--remove-profile flag. With several MyFox profiles it applies to all of them; only
profiles created by MyFox are deleted.
If the MyFox profile was imported from another Firefox with the sync option "Move to the copy", the
original profile was signed out, and its account files were saved next to themselves as
signedInUser.json.myfox-backup and prefs.js.myfox-backup.
Uninstalling offers "Move the Firefox account back to " (on by default; off:
--no-restore-sync). The other Firefox has to be closed for it. The original gets its account back,
and the MyFox profile, if kept, is signed out: one account per device, not two copies of it.
The option isn't offered if the original profile was signed in again since.
If MyFox was removed some other way, close every Firefox and, in the original profile's folder:
- Make sure the MyFox profile is deleted or has no
signedInUser.json: two profiles with the same account files would be one device to Firefox Sync. Don't sign out in the MyFox profile's settings instead, that would disconnect the device on the server for both. - Rename
signedInUser.json.myfox-backuptosignedInUser.json. - Copy the
user_pref("services.sync.…")lines fromprefs.js.myfox-backupintoprefs.js(or replaceprefs.jswith the backup, losing settings changed since the import), then delete the backup.
