The Internet - how it was meant to be. You sit at a desk and you get the Internet. When you walk away, there's no more Internet. Wouldn't that be nice.
Plays the soothing sounds of a modem dialup sound and some familiar voices as you log on and off.
The Internet is on when you place your computer down, and it's off when it's not. Also controls a light.
I go into this in detail on my blog, but you need a few components.
- ESP32, running ESPHome
- PN532 NFC reader (I used a really old one that I do not recommend)
- A Home Assistant installation
- The light, media player, and "switch" that enables and disabled internet access are managed through here
- An NFC tag that can go under your laptop (sticker, or card)
- Card seems to work better depending on your PN532's antenna setup, but stickers are nicer
There's also a script to try and get the Wi-Fi reconnected as quickly as possible, but the jury's out if it's actually necessary.
You'll want to upload the sounds to your Home Assistant's local media store.
