grouping pictures into stacks

I shoot quite a few HDR pictures, usually 5 exposures, which I then combine with SNS HDR and leave the results in the same directory. It would be nice to be able to combine the resulting 6 pictures into a collapsible stack or group, such that in its collapsed state only the top picture is visible in the library. One should be able to freely chose the top image and also to unfold the stack such that all images are visible in the library. Moreover, it would be nice to be able to delete a complete group at once (culling). Of course, it should be possible to have several independent stacks in one directory.

This kind of functionality would also be really good for sports photographers who often shoot in burst mode.

AFAICT, no photo editing software out there has a good way of managing stacks of photos, whether by manually assigning them to a stack or recognising a burst of photos and auto-assigning to a stack.

I'd really like this as a burst or panorama, hdr shooter. I want my sets to compose into a single result stacked together for reference.

Good idea imho. Maybe display it like a visual stack of pictures? Then double click to open this "virtual folder".
