Welcome to the official repository of the DALIA Scale. DALIA is an open-source, evolving matrix designed to quantify and qualify the level of Artificial Intelligence (AI) intervention in creative processes.
As AI blurs the line between human agency and computational execution, traditional metrics (like the percentage of AI-generated pixels or words) are no longer sufficient. DALIA evaluates the creative workflow based on Locus of Control, Ideation, Execution, and Refinement.
| Level | Name | Who is in charge |
|---|---|---|
| D0 | Manual (No AI) | 100% Human. AI is not used at all. The creative process is performed entirely manually. |
| D1 | Tool-Assisted | Human. AI works quietly in the background as an analytical tool to assist the human in creative decisions. |
| D2 | AI-Augmented | Human. AI intervenes in the creation of specific, small elements but doesn't change the meaning of the work. |
| D3 | Guided creation | Human & AI Teamwork. A heavy back-and-forth process. The human and AI act as true creative partners. |
| D4 | AI-Generated (Human Directed) | Human as Art Director. The AI does the heavy lifting, while the human gives orders and judges the results. |
| D5 | Fully Autonomous | 100% AI. The human just presses "start" or sets up a system. The AI systems operate independently to handle the task. |
