There are quite a few word plays which origins aren't clear for people from different backgrounds / culture / fandoms. So here are a few notes where they are coming from which may serve as a hint. Also includes the word heritages of ores and such.

paltaeria: Pale + Aerial (air-y)
stratine
noxwood; the word "nox" is the Latin word for night (nox, nocis), hence night-wood
quitoxic; entirely made up, minus the 'toxic' referencing its outlandish appearance
Downstone is named after Dawnstone, a metal prominent in all kinds of fandoms (german pythology, pokemon, warhammer, dragon age, ...), but phrased as "down", since, well, it generates in the deeper down. De-mystifying what people see as a very rare stone by prepending it with something so generic as "stone" seemed funny and fitting for me for a kinda mythical blocks that is literally everywhere in the DD.
