Enhanced English Language Calculator A user-friendly calculator application that not only performs mathematical computations but also expresses the results in natural English language. This tool bridges the gap between numerical output and linguistic comprehension. Key Features Natural Language Output

Converts numerical results into complete English sentences Makes calculations more accessible and easier to understand Useful for learning, accessibility, and clarity

Core Mathematical Operations

Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division Support for decimal numbers and negative values Handles standard order of operations

User Experience

Clean, intuitive interface with clearly labeled buttons Real-time display showing both the calculation and English description Visual feedback for button interactions Error handling with helpful English explanations

Practical Applications

Educational tool for students learning math concepts Accessibility aid for users who prefer verbal descriptions Professional use in documentation and reporting Language learning support for understanding numerical expressions

Example Outputs

"5 + 3" displays: "Five plus three equals eight" "12 ÷ 4" displays: "Twelve divided by four equals three" "7 × 6" displays: "Seven multiplied by six equals forty-two"

Technical Highlights

Responsive design works on desktop and mobile devices Lightweight implementation with no external dependencies Clear separation between calculation logic and language conversion Extensible architecture for adding new operations or language features

This calculator transforms the traditional cold numerical interface into a warm, conversational experience that speaks your language.

VUNA-Calc

A sophisticated web-based calculator that performs mathematical computations and displays results in plain English language. Perfect for users who want to see their calculations explained in natural language format.

📋 Getting Started

Prerequisites

  • Any modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, etc.)
  • No installation required!

Installation

  1. Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/Olivia-Anigbogu/VUNA-Calc.git
  1. Navigate to the project directory:
cd VUNA-Calc
  1. Open index.html in your web browser

🎮 How to Use

  1. Enter numbers by clicking the number buttons (0-9)
  2. Select an operation by clicking +, -, *, or /
  3. Use parentheses for complex calculations
  4. Press the = button to calculate the result
  5. View the result in both numeric and English word formats
  6. Use ← (backspace) to delete the last character
  7. Press AC to clear all entries and start over

Example Calculations

  • 5 + 3 = 8 → "eight"
  • 100 * 2 = 200 → "two hundred"
  • 1000 + 500 = 1500 → "one thousand five hundred"

🔄 How It Works

The calculator uses a simple three-variable system to track calculations:

  • left: The first number
  • operator: The operation to perform
  • right: The second number

After calculation, the result is converted to English words using a sophisticated algorithm that handles:

  • Units (one through nineteen)
  • Tens (twenty, thirty, etc.)
  • Scales (thousand, million, billion, trillion)
  • Decimal numbers (displayed with "point" between whole and decimal parts)
