Divine Connection

Divine Connection is a turn-based battle game where rival gods clash using the faith, devotion, and sacrifice of their followers.

Created for the GameDev.tv game jam, this prototype was built by 3 devs. We are beginner gamedevs, and pretty new to Unreal Engine. Our goal was to create a complete, playable experience within the time limit, and while the game still has bugs and rough edges, we are proud of what we managed to package, ship, and share.

We hope to keep improving Divine Connection after the jam and develop it into a fuller strategy game with deeper systems, stronger visuals, and more meaningful follower-based gameplay.

The Idea

In Divine Connection, your followers are your power.

The stronger your connection with your followers, the more divine energy you can unleash. Every action matters: will you heal, attack, defend, sacrifice your own followers, convert the enemy’s believers, or save your power for a devastating miracle?

Victory is not just about dealing damage. It is about managing your followers, your connection, and your divine power better than your opponent.

Core Gameplay

Divine Connection is built around simple turn-based decisions:

  • Gain strength from your followers
  • Build connection to unlock stronger divine actions
  • Attack or defend against the enemy god
  • Convert enemy followers to weaken your opponent
  • Sacrifice followers for short-term power
  • Unleash a Miracle when the time is right

The prototype currently focuses on a one-on-one god battle system, but our original vision included visible followers spawning into the arena and fighting on behalf of their gods.

Current Prototype Notes

This is a game jam prototype, so you may encounter bugs, balance issues, missing polish, and general weirdness.

Some known limitations:

  • The game balance is still experimental.
  • Some abilities may feel stronger or weaker than intended.
  • Visual feedback is limited in some areas.
  • The follower system is currently mostly represented through stats rather than fully animated characters.
  • UI, menus, and game flow are still early prototype quality.

Even with those limitations, the game is fully playable and represents the foundation of the idea we wanted to explore.

Future Plans

There were many features we wanted to include but could not finish within the jam deadline.

Some ideas we would love to explore in the future:

  • Visible followers spawning in the arena
  • Followers fighting on behalf of their gods
  • Better ability animations and visual effects
  • Improved UI feedback for gains, losses, and ability costs
  • More strategic ability balancing
  • Multiple enemy gods with different behaviours
  • More arenas and levels
  • Main menu, pause menu, and better win/loss screens
  • Stronger connection mechanics tied directly to followers
  • A more polished tutorial/introduction

Our long-term goal would be to turn Divine Connection into a fuller turn-based god battle game where follower management is the heart of the strategy.

Assets Used

  • Sounds by OVANI
  • Animations by Mixamo
  • 3D models by Synty Studios - Dungeon Pack
  • Additional prototype artwork created with AI assistance

Special Thanks

A huge thank you to GameDev.tv for their Unreal Engine lectures and learning resources. As beginner game developers, those lessons helped us understand enough to build and ship this prototype during the jam.

AI Usage Disclaimer

Some AI-generated artwork was used for fast prototyping during the game jam because our team does not currently have a dedicated artist.

We used it only as a temporary production tool to help us complete the prototype within the time limit. We are not presenting the AI-generated artwork as human-made art, and we do not support replacing artists with AI in commercial game development.

If Divine Connection continues development, we would love to replace the prototype art with original artwork made by artists.

Thank You for Playing

Thank you for checking out Divine Connection.

This was a challenging but rewarding project for us, and we learned a lot while making it. We hope you enjoy the prototype, and we would love to hear your feedback!
