Linux Version #6

I know this has been asked a million times, but I would really appreciate a linux version of DDCut.
Using Wine, I can get the DDCut software installed and the appearance is correct after installing msfonts. But the USB is not recognized. I have tried adding entries to the registry to map the ttyACM0 to various COM ports. I have also confirmed the dosdevices directory in wine has COM ports mapped to ttyACM0. Still, nothing seems to work.
On Virtualbox, I have DDCut installed. The USB is recognized, but the program is unresponsive when I am clicking through the settings menu. I have little confidence that I could get through a whole cut successfully.
So, what is the current status of a linux port? I see people opening issues here that offer to help with the port, Why not take them up on that offer?
GhostGunner is supposedly open source hardware, but why is DDCut closed source?
