Fedora Asahi 44 + GNOME Wayland: cursor invisible on internal display, visible on external DisplayLink #565

Description

@flowride

Are you using the latest driver?

Yes (displaylink 1.14.14)

Are you using the latest EVDI version?

Yes (evdi 1.14.14 via DKMS)

Linux distribution and version

Fedora Asahi Remix 44 (aarch64, 16k kernel)

Kernel version

6.19.13-400.asahi.fc44.aarch64+16k

Desktop environment

GNOME Shell 50.1 / Mutter 50.1 / Wayland

Hardware

  • Apple Silicon Mac (Asahi platform, ARM64)
  • DisplayLink USB adapter detected as 17e9:6000

Problem summary

After migration from Fedora 43 to Fedora 44, DisplayLink output works, but cursor behavior regressed:

  • External DisplayLink monitor: cursor is visible and smooth (no lag)
  • Internal laptop display: cursor disappears (or is not rendered), while pointer movement/input still seems active

This setup worked correctly before migration on Fedora 43.

What I already checked

  • evdi is built for current kernel and loaded
  • DisplayLink service is active (displaylink-driver.service)
  • DisplayLink USB device is detected
  • issue appears tied to Wayland/compositor + evdi interaction after upgrade

Workarounds tested

  • Forcing software cursor via MUTTER_DEBUG_DISABLE_HW_CURSORS=1 changes behavior but does not provide a good result in this setup
  • Problem started only after Fedora 44 migration (GNOME/Mutter 50 + Mesa 26 stack)

Relevant logs

I can provide:

  • dmesg filtered on evdi|drm|cursor|mmap
  • journalctl -b filtered on gnome-shell|mutter|evdi|displaylink
  • /var/log/displaylink/*
