Objective
The Earth-System Documentation (ES-DOC) aims to nurture a standards based documentation eco-system in support of Earth System Model and Observation documentation.
Overview
The IPSL was active in the EU Metafor project which defined a common information standard (CIM) for describing Earth System Models and their Simulations. The Metafor project also delivered an online questionnaire for collecting CMIP5 Model & Simulation documentation.
Once the Metafor project came to the end of it's funding cycle, with strong IPSL support the ES-DOC project came into being. ES-DOC took as it's starting point the CIM and the published CMIP5 documentation, and aims to deliver to the community documentation search, viewing, editing and comparison tools. It also aims to deliver the scripting tools necessary to allow institutes to automate the process of Model and Simulation documentation.
