Elog
The control box (EM2 and newer) support Ecotrust Canada's eVTR compliant Elog software.
There are 2 parameters required in /etc/em.conf which specify the Elog username and password.
vtr_username=<6 DIGIT VESSEL PERMIT>
vtr_password=<NOAA PROVIDED ELOG PASSWORD FOR FISHERMAN>
The vtr_username parameter should be the same as the "vrn", and should be a 6 digit numeric "vessel permit number". The vtr_password is a password provided to the fisherman by NOAA. This allows the fisherman to use the app, and to submit data to NOAA on his own, or through the service provider.
You must reboot the system after setting these parameters.
See the MS Word Documentation prepared for this purpose. The Elog software isn't open source and so the instructions are not provided on GitHub. Ask Ecotrust Canada.
Elog data are required to be submitted to GARFO. This is currently done using an elog server set up somewhere by your service provider. The steps are:
- Retrieve the Elog Data from the box.
- Upload the Elog Data to the server.
- Submit to GARFO.
There are two ways of doing this currently.
Insert a FAT32 formatted USB drive will be detected and the Elog will be saved there. Note: some new USB drives may be other formats (hfs, xfat) by default. The easiest way to be sure is to put it into a windows computer, and go My Computer -> right click -> format and choose FAT32. In the Elog software on the control box, go to the trip page, use the dropdown menu at the top to export or submit the Elog data. Follow the prompt and choose to Export to USB. Remove the USB drive and bring it with you.
When you return to a location with internet access, open a web browser on a laptop, and visit your elog server webpage. Use the option there to upload a CSV and submit to GARFO.
The Elog is also saved to the EM data drive automatically, and uploaded to the elog server for review and submission as part of the analysis (offload) scripts. Follow the usual EM steps of archiving and analyzing the EM data.
Now, visit the elog server webpage and select your EM archive (The vessel and date will indicate which one to use). Sign in, and navigate to your specific trip. There may be old copies of previous trips present, ignore these. Review the trip data if necessary. Use the menu at the top of the trip page, and select the option to submit to GARFO directly.
