Audio Randomizer Banner

Audio Randomizer gives everything the wrong sounds.

And to be clear, this mod doesn't add anything of value. It only screws up the game. But that's what makes it fun!

You might be following a banjo signal and run into Esker, or be exploring Dark Bramble and hear the village music begin to play. Sometimes the audio will be funny, other times it'll hurt your ears and turn the game into a slideshow. And sometimes the campfire will start playing the piano out of nowhere.

In the mod settings, there's a few options to control how unplayable the game should be, which are explained below:

  • Randomize Audio - Controls how much to randomize all of the sound effects. Light will leave a lot of the shorter sounds alone, like your footsteps, tool sounds, and UI sounds. Heavy will randomize every sound in the game and will probably make it unplayable.
  • Randomize Music - Randomizes the background music you hear in a lot of places. Separate will make sure the music stays as music, like swapping the village music with the Dark Bramble ambience. Mixed will shuffle the music into the rest of the sound effects, which is how things like the campfire crackling become the Nomai ambience.
  • Randomize Slide Reel Music (DLC only) - A lot of the music you hear while watching slide reels doesn't make sense to put in other places of the game, so you can set this to Separate to make sure that slide reel music stays in the slide reels. If you set this to Combined, the slide reel music will be treated like regular music.
  • Randomize Signals - Shuffles around the signals on your signalscope. Separate will make sure you only hear actual signals on your signalscope. Mixed will shuffle the signals into the rest of the sound effects, so you might end up hearing an elevator when you aim your signalscope at Riebeck.

This is intended to be used in the regular Outer Wilds solar system, but it can also work with mods! (to an extent)

Custom sounds from mods won't get mixed together with default sounds, and a lot of the non-looping sounds (button presses, impacts, etc.) probably won't get shuffled. Looping audio like music, signals, and ambience will probably get shuffled most of the time.
