Action Performed:

1. Signup with a new Gmail account (Don't use + account and no need to validate)
2. Select the purpose "Track and budget expenses"
3. Enter a name and click "Continue"
4. On the "Stay organized with a workspace" modal, click "Create workspace"
5. On the "Invite members" screen, enter your member's email address and click "Continue"

Expected Result:

The "Invite members" screen should be appeared.

Actual Result:

"Invite members" screen not appeared after "Create workspace".

Detailed Analysis

Evidence

PR #84146 was merged on 2026-03-06 and intentionally changed the onboarding flow for users who select "Track and budget expenses" (PERSONAL_SPEND) during onboarding.

Before PR #84146:

Purpose → PersonalDetails → WorkspaceOptional → (click "Create workspace") → WorkspaceConfirmation (naming) → WorkspaceInvite (invite members)

After PR #84146:

Purpose → PersonalDetails → WorkspaceOptional → (click "Create workspace") → [immediately completes onboarding, skips naming and invite screens]

Verification

The PR modifies /src/pages/OnboardingWorkspaceOptional/BaseOnboardingWorkspaceOptional.tsx lines 253-256:

This code explicitly checks if the user selected PERSONAL_SPEND and if so, creates the workspace with default settings and completes onboarding immediately, bypassing both the workspace naming screen and the "Invite members" screen.

Root Cause

This is not a code regression - it's a conflict between:

1. The product requirement in issue [Due for payment 2026-03-16] [$250] Skip workspace naming and invites in Track onboarding #82774 which requested skipping workspace naming and member invites for "Track and budget personal spend" users to reduce friction
2. The QA test case TC-55614645 which expects the "Invite members" screen to appear

Product Decision Needed

Two possible resolutions:

Option A: The PR is correct - Update the test case to reflect the new expected behavior (no invite screen for PERSONAL_SPEND users). The product intentionally simplified this flow per issue #82774.

Option B: The PR broke intended behavior - Revert PR #84146 or modify it to show the invite screen even for PERSONAL_SPEND users.

Why Medium Confidence?

The causing PR is definitively #84146 based on code verification. However, I'm marking this "Medium confidence" because it's unclear whether this is truly a bug or an outdated test case. The PR was an intentional product change with clear requirements.

Recommendation Details

I recommend NEEDS INVESTIGATION with the following action items:

1. @joekaufmanexpensify (Bug owner) or @cead22 (DeployBlocker owner): Please clarify the intended product behavior:

   • Should users who select "Track and budget expenses" see the "Invite members" screen during onboarding?
   • Is the test case outdated, or is PR Skip workspace naming and invites for Track onboarding #84146 incorrect?

2. If the test case is outdated → Close this issue as "Expected behavior" and update the BrowserStack test case

3. If PR Skip workspace naming and invites for Track onboarding #84146 is incorrect → Revert PR Skip workspace naming and invites for Track onboarding #84146 or create a fix to restore the invite members screen
