Action Performed:

1. Go to staging.new.expensify.com
2. Go to workspace chat.
3. Create an expense.
4. Open the expense.
5. Click More > Split > Save.
6. Open any split.
7. Click Amount field.
8. Quickly click outside Edit splits RHP.

Expected Result:

Expense report RHPs will not animate after closing Edit splits RHP.

Actual Result:

Expense report RHPs show sluggish animation after closing Edit splits RHP.

Recommendation: REVERT

PR 85743 upgraded react-navigation packages and introduced a sluggish RHP animation regression when closing the Edit Splits RHP. Reverting this PR will restore the previous navigation behavior and fix the animation issue.

Labels: No label changes needed. DeployBlockerCash is correctly applied since the fix requires changes to the App (revert of an App PR). DeployBlocker is not present and should not be added.

Detailed Analysis:

Evidence:

• melvin-bot automatically linked PR 85743 as the causing PR in the first comment on this issue
• PR 85743 is the react-navigation upgrade (native 7.1.10 to 7.1.33, native-stack 7.3.14 to 7.14.5, stack 7.3.3 to 7.8.5), merged on 2026-04-02, which aligns with version 9.3.52-8 on staging where the bug reproduces
• The bug manifests as sluggish animation after closing Edit splits RHP, a classic symptom of animation or transition behavior changes in react-navigation
• The issue is only reproducible on staging, not production, confirming it was introduced by a recently merged staging PR

Verification:

• Affected component: RightModalNavigator at src/libs/Navigation/AppNavigator/Navigators/RightModalNavigator.tsx
• PR 85743 directly modifies RightModalNavigator.tsx, the exact file responsible for RHP navigation and animations
• PR 85743 also updates react-navigation patches including stack (controls card/modal animations) and native-stack (interaction manager integration), which govern how RHP animations behave during transitions

Root Cause:
The upgrade from @react-navigation/stack 7.3.3 to 7.8.5 and @react-navigation/native-stack 7.3.14 to 7.14.5 introduced animation behavior changes. The updated patches (dontDetachScreen and added-interaction-manager-integration) appear to cause expense report RHP screens to animate sluggishly when the Edit Splits RHP is dismissed. The upstream library changes to how screens are transitioned and detached likely interact with the InteractionManager and overlay close logic in RightModalNavigator.tsx, producing the observed sluggish animation.
