Action Performed:

1. Go to staging.new.expensify.com
2. Go to workspace chat.
3. Create two expenses with same amount, long merchant and long category.
4. Open the report.
5. Click Review duplicates.
6. Hover over the truncated merchant and category.

Expected Result:

Tooltip will appear when hovering over long merchant and long category.

Actual Result:

Tooltip does not appear when hovering over long merchant and long category.

Proposal

What is the root cause of that problem?

DuplicateTransactionItem.tsx:87 explicitly passes shouldShowTooltip={false} to the TransactionItemRow component. This prop propagates down to the TextWithTooltip components used by MerchantOrDescriptionCell and DateCell (which renders category as suffix text). When shouldShowTooltip is false, the TextWithTooltip onLayout handler exits early without ever checking whether text is truncated, so tooltips are never enabled.

What changes do you think we should make in order to solve the problem?

Change shouldShowTooltip={false} to shouldShowTooltip (defaults to true) on line 87 of DuplicateTransactionItem.tsx. This will allow the TextWithTooltip components to detect truncation and show tooltips on hover for merchant and category text.

What alternative solutions did you explore? (Optional)

We could wrap just the merchant and category cells in standalone Tooltip components, but that would bypass the existing shouldShowTooltip / TextWithTooltip infrastructure that already handles truncation detection correctly — the simpler fix is to just enable the existing mechanism.

@nabi-ebrahimi this is new functionality isn't it? I don't think this is a deploy blocker, but it is something we should add. Was it spec'd in the original GH?
