What is Eyevinn OSC?

Eyevinn Open Source Cloud (OSC) is our cloud offering where you can easily find, activate, and run hosted open-source components from Eyevinn and other sources. The open-source components, hosted at close to cost-price, are easily managed through the portal.

All components available on Eyevinn OSC are also ready packaged as Docker containers and accessible for free installation in any cloud for self-hosting. Start quick on Eyevinn OSC and move the component over to your own cloud at any time.

Sign up and in only a few minutes you can set up a new linear test-channel (FAST), test your video client resiliency, or make a 360-validation of your DAI workflow. Leap forward on your journey to automatic regression testing or set up a complete carrier-grade cloud transcoding environment with advanced queue handling.

4 Step Quick Start Guide

Quick start guide to set up a hosted OSaaS service includes the following steps:

  1. Create an Eyevinn OSaaS portal account

    a. For an organizational account: contact your Eyevinn representative or email info@eyevinn.se

    b. For a private account: create an account directly on Eyevinn OSC

  2. Once logged in to the Eyevinn OSaaS portal, browse to the desired component and click the component card to enter the detailed view.

  3. Click the subscription button to allocate an application instance in the cloud for that particular OSaaS component. This step also activates the monthly hosting fee for the service.

  4. Start the OSaaS component service, whether it is setting up a new FAST channel, starting a test tool, or setting up a transcoding queue. Each component has its own start process.

User Guide

This guide provides instructions to create a new OSC account and subscribe to your fist Eyevinn Open Source service.

Accounts

There are two types of accounts in Eyevinn OSaaS:

  1. Private Accounts
  2. Organizational Accounts

Both account types enable the same functionalities and private accounts can be connected to Organizational accounts. Eyevinn OSaaS is a multi-tenant environment where you can easily manage your own subscriptions and those of the organizations you are a part of.

Note: Currently there is no payment method available for Private Accounts which disables them from subscribing to any OSaaS component. Until implemented, any subscriptions may be handled from an Organizational Account.

Account Creation

User accounts are created at https://eyevinn.osaas.io/ by signing up with an email address. The log in link is emailed and the signed in session is token based and passwordless.

Organizational accounts and payment details are currently created by Eyevinn OSaaS admin. Talk to your Eyevinn representative or email info@eyevinn.se to have your organizational account set up.

Payment

Organizational accounts currently support only invoicing as a payment method. This is set up by the Eyevinn OSaaS admin at organizational account creation.

Note: Currently there is no payment method available for Private Accounts which disables them from subscribing to any OSaaS component. Until implemented, any subscriptions may be handled from an Organizational Account.

Using Eyevinn OSaaS

Using Eyevinn OSaaS portal is very straightforward. Access Eyevinn OSaaS components from the left menu bar.

  • “Subscriptions” lists the components you are currently subscribing to.
  • “Browse” gives access to all OSaaS components available on the Eyevinn OSaaS portal. From here you can search for new components to subscribe to.
  • “Economy” lists the active subscription payments and payment history.

Each OSaaS component is highlighted in a separate card displaying its name, short description and a few genre boxes. Each card also has a heart icon which lets the user bookmark OSaaS components in the “Saved” list. The € icons on each OSaaS component card indicates the hosting fee. One € indicates a low fee, €€ indicates a medium fee, and €€€ indicates a high fee. As the hosting fees are close to cost-price, a higher fee indicates a higher resource usage.

For more information about an OSaaS component, or to subscribe to it, the detail view can be accessed by clicking the component card. Once in the detailed view, there is more information about the OSaaS component such as the author and price. More information about the component can be found in the About section. The subscription button is in the top right corner. Subscribing to a service will make the component available to run, and a subscription payment will be initiated.
