The changes were negatively received by nearly everyone because it broke the sniper's identity and caused new issues with apm requirements and unit speed while solving an uncertain cost issue for smaller game sizes.
Low range snipers were especially obsolete with the more powerful SACUs being in the same test release, which offered similar ability to counter percy/brick but with better misc. stats (aoe, buildpower, regen, density) and less apm requirement.
