HDMI Audio not working from videos playing on remote

FPP Version and Hardware:
v9.4 on Pi 3

Describe the bug and Steps to reproduce:
I installed 9.4 on a test pi to validate needed functionality before rolling out to my live remotes. This is a fresh install on a new SD card. I then did a file copy backup/restore to give it the content from one of my live remotes.
The Pi is connected via HDMI to a monitor with internal speakers.
AV settings are configured for HDMI audio output (screenshot below)
When an MP4 is triggered by multisync remote, the audio is not playing thru the monitor's speakers.

Also, if i switch the FPP to player mode and manually start the mp4 file from the status page, there is also no audio.

Expected behavior:
Audio should play in both player and remote mode whenever media is playing.

Followup. It looks like this is probably the same as issue #2018
