Before installing
This installer is not signed. Windows SmartScreen will show a
warning: «Windows protected your PC». To proceed: More info →
Run anyway.
It isn't a formality and shouldn't be taken for granted. An
unsigned installer is an installer whose provenance you cannot
verify, and the only thing I can offer in exchange is that the
source is here and builds itself. An OV certificate requires
identity validation and an annual cost: when there is one, this
warning will disappear from these notes.
Where the music comes from
Aether plays your files, and looks for what's missing in the
free catalogs. It doesn't download from YouTube and doesn't
scrape Spotify: the why is in README.md. What no free catalog
has ends up in a shopping list, not in an error.
Licenses
LICENSE (MIT), THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md (the dependencies, with
their texts), PRIVACY.md (every network request the program can
make), TERMS.md (what you can do with the music you download —
including the Live Music Archive's non-commercial
constraint).

v2.3.1
Aether v2.3.1
The release that stops writing in your files. Up to 2.3.0 two features
changed what was on your disk: enrichment rewrote tags every half hour, and the
reorganizer moved files into Artist/Album. The first no longer opens a file
for writing — what MusicBrainz knows goes into the library database, beside
your own corrections, where a re-scan cannot silently undo it. The second has
been retired: your files stay exactly where they are. What Aether still
writes is short enough to list, and it is listed, in PRIVACY.md § 8.
It also adds a Folders panel that walks the real tree, window zoom (Ctrl++,
Ctrl+-, Ctrl+0), a ten-step guided tour on first run, the file's real
format under «Now playing», named animations in the skin format, lyrics timed
word by word, Opus and .oga playback, and a profile that becomes a
.aeprofile archive carrying the whole library. The detail, with the whys, is
in CHANGELOG.md.
If you are on 2.2.0 or older, this one is by hand
The update signing key changed with 2.3.0. Copies installed from 2.0.1, 2.1.0
or 2.2.0 have the old public key compiled into them: they will download
this release, fail to verify its signature, and discard it in silence. Install
this one by hand, once. From 2.3.0 onwards automatic updates work again.
The database migrates
Three migrations — 019_identita_e_metadati, 020_cronologia_unica,
021_impronte_illeggibili. Migrations only go forward: a database written by
this version refuses to open in an older one rather than guessing at it. If
you want the way back, take a copy of
%APPDATA%\io.github.federicobaratti.aether before updating.

You can still check the download yourself: the .sig beside the installer is
its minisign signature — the same one the updater verifies before it installs
anything — and the public key it answers to is the pubkey field of
apps/desktop/src-tauri/tauri.conf.json, which is the minisign public-key file
in base64. Decode it, and minisign -Vm Aether_2.3.1_x64-setup.exe -p <that file>
says whether the installer you downloaded by hand is the one the updater would
have installed.

v2.1.0
Aether v2.1.0
Vedi CHANGELOG.md per cosa è cambiato.
Prima di installare
Questo installer non è firmato. Windows SmartScreen mostrerà un
avviso: «Windows ha protetto il PC». Per procedere: Ulteriori
informazioni → Esegui comunque.
perché sta in README.md. Quel che nessun catalogo libero ha
finisce in una lista d'acquisto, non in un errore.
Licenze
