Makes a Google Pixel (or any Android phone not sold in China) work at the QR-code fare gates on Chinese city transit - the metros and buses in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and elsewhere. Alipay/WeChat force the screen to full brightness for the ride QR, which blows it out for the gate scanners; this dims the screen back to a scannable level, but only while those apps are in the foreground.

Install

  1. Download brightness-lock-v1.0.apk below and sideload it (enable "install unknown apps" for your browser or files app).
  2. Open the app, grant display over other apps and usage access.
  3. Tap Start auto-dim.

Requires Android 7.0+ (API 24). Default watchlist: Alipay, AlipayHK, WeChat - editable in-app.
